Lest we forget

The Halloween event normally marks the end of the main operating season for the Apedale Valley Light Railway, with just the Santa Specials in December to come. However, 2018 is different. At this time of year, hopefully no-one is unaware that this is the centenary of the end of the First World War. To mark this, we will be running an additional weekend this year, on Saturday 10 & Sunday 11th November. We will be operating the three First World War steam locos in the fleet – the Hudswell, the Joffre and No.303 (the Hunslet 460) – along with the WW1-era internal combustion locos in the collection. These locos will be in use on the passenger train, and also hauling trains of appropriate wagons on both the mainline and the Field Railway. The reproduction Trench will also be open for visits, and will doubtless be visited by supply trains during the weekend. On the Saturday, trains will run from 1130 to 1600. On the Sunday, we will start at 1200, and run to 1600. The later start is to allow visitors to attend the many services of Remembrance which there are throughout the country. We will not be holding a formal Remembrance service on site.
Our standard fares will be available during this event, which should be a memorable opportunity to remember all who have fallen in all conflicts, of all nationalities.
