A major hurdle was overcome in the restoration of Motor Rail 21520. You may (or may not) recall that arguably the biggest issue with this loco when it arrived at Apedale was the terrible condition of the wheelsets. It had worked in the peat industry, which is not noted of tender loving care of assets. For various reasons, weld repair of the treads was undertaken. To the surprise of this author, this has actually worked out remarkably well – albeit that it was a long, painful process to get to this point. “This point” means wheelsets in a fit condition to re-fit into the loco. So, as will be seen in the photos, the loco was re-wheeled yesterday. In the best traditions of such operations, work needed to continue after dark, but it’s done now. The owner seemed suitably pleased!
